HONG KONG, 15 July 2022  – Influential names in the coloured gemstone trade are ready to unveil their latest product releases at Asia’s biggest and most exciting industry gathering of its kind in Singapore this September – Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW).

 

Previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, JGW continues to gain traction with about 1,000 exhibitors from close to 30 countries and regions, including suppliers of beautifully-cut coloured gemstones that are either presented loose or set in finished jewellery.  

 

The fair will be held at the Singapore EXPO from 27 to 30 September. In an unprecedented move, the industry-benchmark event is temporarily relocating from Hong Kong to trade show-ready Singapore to make the fair as accessible as possible to overseas exhibitors and visitors. Unlike Hong Kong, which still requires mandatory quarantine for inbound travellers, Singapore allows fully vaccinated visitors to enter the country without pre-departure tests, on-arrival tests and quarantine.

Before the Singapore event, show organiser Informa Markets Jewellery will stage a special-edition fair in Hong Kong from 16 to 19 September catering to local trade buyers and jewellery lovers. The full-scale version of JGW will return to Hong Kong in September 2023.

The September Fair is famed for its rich and diverse selection of coloured gemstones from premium dealers, cutters and mine-to-market suppliers, with exhibitors ensuring that compelling collections will be on tap at the show.

 

One of the first companies to sign up for JGW Singapore, Gemdiam specialises in premium-quality emeralds, rubies and sapphires, including single gems, layouts, pairs and calibrated goods. Some of the company’s must-see offerings, which will be showcased at the Premier Pavilion, include highly prized Colombian emeralds from the famed mines of Muzo, and a curated inventory of Brazilian and Zambian emeralds. A unique destination at the show, the Premier Pavilion gives retailers, brands and high-net-worth buyers the opportunity to find one-of-a-kind jewellery creations, exceptional gemstones and superbly crafted contemporary pieces in one location. 

 

“We have ‘no-oil’ emeralds of 10 to 15 carats, which are extremely rare. We also have Burmese and Kashmir sapphires, and Burmese rubies,” shared Gemdiam’s Arun Jain, a third-generation gemstone dealer. “Since Hong Kong remains ‘closed’ to overseas visitors, we want to go where international buyers can travel without any hesitation. We are targeting high-end buyers from around the world, and we believe there are opportunities for us to do business in Singapore.” 

 

Colorjewels, which maintains large-scale operations for cutting and polishing gemstones, will also come out in full force for the Singapore event. Its collections include stunning Paraiba tourmalines, emeralds, sapphires and fancy colour diamonds shown off to perfection in jewellery settings, to name a few. “We are excited about the show,” a company executive said. “This will give us the chance to connect with international buyers in Asia once again.”  

 

Likewise, emeralds cut in uniform and consistent dimensions are among the top products that Emerald 18 Ltd will launch at the fair. Its collections consist of an assortment of Africa-sourced emeralds, including single stones and layouts from 1 carat and higher with accompanying gemstone reports and in various price ranges. The company supplies consistently sorted emeralds in all shapes, sizes and price categories, including “Quality Cut” rounds and princess-cut stones in sizes ranging from 1.75mm to 4mm, in increments of 0.25mm and in separate categories. In addition, “Quality Cut” micro-cut round emeralds of high precision for micro-settings from 0.90mm to 1.70mm with 0.05mm tolerance are also on offer.  

 

“Stone setters love working with our ‘Quality Cut’ emeralds. They experience almost no breakage and therefore, can utilise the entire lot bought,” according to Emerald 18 Ltd. 

 

The emerald specialist is a joint cooperative platform of coloured gemstone manufacturers and traders Hargem Ltd and H. Stark & Co Ltd. The two companies have been operating in Israel since the 1960s. 

 

Industry trailblazer Paul Wild OHG of Germany, famous for its fine gemstones and striking layouts, is anticipated to impress visitors with gemstone suites, spectacular single stones and pairs. Its collections include a pair of pear-shaped spinels from Tanzania with a combined weight of 22.37 carats, a single spinel gem weighing 10.87 carats and a 14.56-carat pear-shaped tanzanite. 

 

In addition to the above-mentioned exhibitors, suppliers of classic stones, exotic and hard-to-find gem material, and the more popular goods – either loose or set in finished jewellery – are exhibiting in other locations throughout the fair, including the Premier, International Colored Gemstone Association, and the national, regional or industry association pavilions of Colombia, Germany, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand, among others. 

 

Segmented into 20+ destinations for easy navigation, the show also features pavilions led by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), Hong Kong, Israel Diamond Institute (IDI), Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey and the US, among others.  

 

In terms of product categories, JGW Singapore has distinct neighbourhoods dedicated to diamonds, pearls, fine jewellery, antique and vintage collections, jadeite jade, pre-owned jewellery, silver creations, lab-grown diamonds, and packaging and technology solutions.

Meanwhile, Informa Markets Jewellery is debuting Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Bangkok (JGAB) from 2 to 5 November at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). A B2B cash-and-carry event, the fair caters to buyers from Southeast Asia and beyond who require immediate stocks for the peak holiday selling season. The Bangkok show is the industry’s last wholesale buying fair of the year. 

 

In Hong Kong, it’s all systems go for JGW Hong Kong Special Edition, a sourcing event formatted to meet the needs of Hong Kong-based B2B buyers and jewellery lovers. Customised to adapt to Hong Kong’s restrictions on international arrivals and cross-border travel, the fair will be held from 16 to 19 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
